In a meeting held this week, the president of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan reportedly declared on Monday that the National Directorate of Employment must be in charge of the recruitment of 774, 000 interested and readily available youths across Nigeria, which is also a part of the Federal Government COVID-19 palliative measures and operatives.
The National Assembly has energetically passed the request of the executive board and members for the said sum of Fifty-two billion Naira [N52,000,000,000] to embark on the programme of the public works across the country, where a total number of one thousand [1,000] youths will be recruited and inevitably, employed in every local government area in the country, totalling the speculated totals of 774,000 people.

Duties and obligations of Recruited/Successful Applicants
Recruited applicants will do tasks as follows:
- They would be involved or asked to do drainage digging and cleaning
- Survey and clean irrigation canals in the areas they are posted to
- Be asked to be a rural feeder in the road maintenance course
- Maintaining of the Great Green Wall nurseries and orchards in states like Borno, Jigawa and Katsina States
- Employed applicants may control traffic flow in areas where there may be no traffic lights or signs
- Engage in basic street cleaning and maintenance
- Cleaning of public infrastructure like Health Centres, Schools and cemeteries.

It is said that a total of 40,000 direct transient jobs were expected to be created in the eight pilot states in order to alleviate the cases of unemployment among youths in the areas of these states.
