HM Sadiya Umar Farouq week in Review 24 August 2020 It’s tradition every week , the Minister of Humanitarian affairs do share with the Public her last week activities, so it will be good if we keep the Tradition Alive by sharing the updates to everyone, so we all can see if she is truly doing her best or not.
This has been one of the most eventful weeks #fmhdsd in the recent past. It was not just our 1st anniversary week, it was also the week when we joined the whole world in marking a key date that forms part of our core mandate as a ministry.
We kicked off the week with the commemoration of the World Humanitarian Day on August 18,2020 during which I thanked the media as well as the strategic partners and supporters who have helped us achieve our humanitarian objectives.

We also held a media briefing which featured a robust interactive session during which i was joined by OCHA Head of Office, Trond Jensen, representative of Edward Kalion, UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria. The UN is one of our key partners.
Because the work we do #FMHDSD demands that we keep abreast of rapidly evolving situations and global trends we added a Thought leadership component to the activities planned to commemorate our tst year anniversary.
Grp. Capt. SG Shehu th delivered a lecture titled “#FMHDSD : An interlocutor between Humanitarian Development 8. Security” while the Dep. Director, Disaster Management, Dr. A. A. Suleiman spoke on ” Responding to a disaster within a disaster:t100ding within a pandemic.”
I attended the virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday. It was presided over by HE President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR.
On Friday, I joined dignitaries drawn from the federal & state govts as well as from the diplomatic & humanitarian communities to celebrate our 1st anniversary. It offered us an opportunity to assess our progress & also acknowledge key partners, supporters & allies.
I expressed my gratitude to H E @Mbuhari for entrusting me with providing direction and coordination for #FMHDSD and my heartfelt appreciation to my colleagues #FMHDSD for their commitment and hard work On Saturday I was in Kano to witness the hand over of 3,999 tonnes of cereal food items donated by the President of the #ecowas, as part of the #ECOWAS emergency assistance for vulnerable populations affected by the #COVID-1 9 Pandemic.
I expressed the FG’s appreciation to the #ecowas for the timely and generous provision of humanitarian assistance for distribution to members of our vulnerable population impacted by the COVlD-19 Pandemic in Nigeria.

As we step into our 2nd year we remain resolute & committed to evolving new strategies for broadening the nexus that connects the management of disasters, provision of humanitarian assistance 8. the development of social safety nets which help us build resilience for the future.
